Use the Internet Setup Assistant to configure your computer for a dialup connection to the Internet via Acelink.

Configuring a Home IP Connection

  1. Locate the Internet Setup Assistant program on your computer. This is typically located in the "Client Access" folder in the "Internet Utilities" folder in the "Internet" folder on your hard disk. You can also start it by double-clicking on its alias in the "Assistants" folder located on your hard disk.

  2. To launch the Setup Assistant, double-click on its icon.

  3. Click on the Update button to add a new configuration. The Internet Setup Assistant will display a screen of introductory information.

  4. Click on the right-arrow button in the lower-right corner of the dialog box. The assistant will prompt you to select the type of configuration activity you wish to perform. Select Add Internet Configuration as shown below:

  5. Click on the right-arrow button to proceed. The assistant will prompt you to enter a name for this configuration. In the example, below, the name "Acelink" has been entered:

     

  6. Click on the right-arrow to proceed. You will be prompted to select the type of modem you will be using with the configuration. Select your modem from the list, the port to which it is connected to your computer (typically the modem port), and either tone or pulse dialing (tone is best).

    If your modem does not appear in the list, try selecting "Hayes Acura 288" or "Supra 288" as alternatives.

     

  7. Click on the right-arrow to proceed. The assistant will ask you to enter the telephone number you will be calling and your Home IP account name and password. Acelink's Nashville dialup number is 760-9200.

      The example below shows "jon" as the username. Please use your actual Acelink login name (all lowercase letters). Don't enter your full name, such as "John Smith" in this field.

       

     

  8. Click on the right-arrow to proceed. You will be asked whether or not you have been assigned an IP address for your Home IP account. Click on the No button:

  9. Click on the right-arrow to proceed. The assistant will prompt you to enter Domain Name Server (DNS) information for Acelink. Type this information exactly as shown below:

     

  10. Click on the right-arrow to proceed. You will be asked to enter your electronic mail address information. Enter your email address in the first of the two lower fields, for example:
     

      john@acelink.net

    You will also want to enter your Acelink password below your email address. Be careful to enter it using all lowercase letters, unless you know for certain that your password contains uppercase letters.

     

  11. Click on the right-arrow to proceed. The assistant prompts for the location of your email (the POP3 server) from which you receive electronic mail and the (SMTP) server which send your email. So, in the first field enter your full email address. In the second field enter: "acelink.net".

     

  12. Click on the right-arrow to proceed. You will be asked to enter the name of the electronic news host for Acelink. Please enter "news.acadiacom.net".

     

  13. Sometimes the assistant asks for a "quoting" character. If you see this question on your screen, we recommend you select a "greater than" sign like this: ">"

     

  14. Click on the right-arrow to proceed. Then click on the Go Ahead button to save your configuration and exit Internet Setup Assistant:
