To
connect to AceLink from a Windows NT system, you must have RAS (Remote
Access Services) installed. RAS can be installed during the initial
installation by choosing the Custom Option in Setup and selecting
install RAS. If you do not have a Remote Access Services group,
follow the Adding RAS after installation instructions.
Also, the TCP/IP protocol must have been installed.
Configuring
Remote Access
To connect with
AceLink, you will use the Remote Access Program in the Remote Access
Services Group. Here are some simple step by step instructions for
setting up a phone book entry.
- Open the
Remote Access Services Group and double click on the Remote
Access icon. This will start the RAS phone book.
- In the Remote
Access Phone Book , select an entry and then choose the Add
button.
- Entry
name should be AceLink Internet Access.
- Phone
number: should be the number of the POP you will be connecting
to.
- Description
Is optional.
- Check that
the Port and Device are correct.
- In the Add
Phone Book Entry dialog box, choose the Network button.
If you can not see the netework button, choose the Advanced
button, and then choose the Network button.
- Select PPP
and be sure the TCP/IP box is the only one checked
- In the Network
Protocol Settings box, choose the TCP/IP Settings button.
- In the PPP
TCP/IP Settings dialog box, select Server assigned IP Address
- Choose Server
assigned Nameservers
- Be sure the
next two boxes (WINS: and WINS backup) are all zeros.
- Use VJ
header compression should NOT be checked.
- Check the
Use default gateway on remote network box.
- Click OK
- Choose OK
again in the Network Protocol Settings window.
- In Add Phone
Book Entry choose OK for the last time.
- Now simply
highlight the AceLink Internet Access entry and click on Dial.
- Make sure
the user name is your ppp account name and enter the password
for the account.
- Domain is
ns.AceLink.net
- Choose OK
and the system will dial.
- To close
the connection, restore the Remote Access program and choose Hang
Up.
Adding
RAS After Installation Before installing RAS, be sure the TCP/IP
protocol has been installed. For instructions, see the Windows NT
Installation Guide. The steps for adding RAS to your system follow:
- In Control
Panel, choose the Network option.
- In the Network
Settings dialog box, choose the Add Software button.
- From the
Network Software list, select Remote Access Service and click
continue. If it asks for a path , enter the path to the original
disks.
- In the Add
Port dialog box, you will see a list of available ports. Select
the port you wish to use for RAS and click on OK.
- Remote Access
Setup will offer to auto detect the modem on the port you selected
in the previous step. Choose Cancel to manually select a modem
or click on Ok to proceed with auto detect. If you are given a
list of modems, choose the one closest to yours.
- In the Configure
Port dialog box, the modem that the was auto detected will be
highlighted.
- In the Port
usage box, choose Dial Out Only.
- Choose the
continue button.
That's it for
